Left my keys in the door All night!!
Welcome to the Aquarius New Moon, the time in the lunar calendar when our attention turns towards our lives played out on a larger scale — the communities we belong to, social threads and connectivity, the issues and causes we feel drawn to. The new moon is exact on January 29, 2025 at 7:35 am ET, 9 degrees. That's 4:35 am Los Angeles, 12:35 pm London, 2:35 pm Johannesburg, 6:05 pm New Delhi, 11:35 pm Sydney, and 1:35 am Auckland on January 30.
New moons are new beginnings. They set the stage for the next four weeks and act as a lens for our experiences as well as for our inner life. Aquarius is the second-to-last sign in the zodiac. And if the zodiac is the wheel of life, Aquarius brings us into the collective and into the systems and networks that run our lives. These systems may be social in nature, such as our friends and community. Or these systems may be the framework that builds the world around us. Think systems of transportation and exchange, monetary systems, governmental systems.
If that sounds a bit zoomed out, that's because Aquarius as an archetype is our world and our place in it. Aquarius is the digital reflection to Capricorn's physical structures, like the radio or wi-fi signal emitted from a tower or router.
It's in Aquarius that "as above, so below" becomes so apparent. The dance of our lives mirrored in the dance of the stars.
This Aquarius New Moon is notable for a couple of reasons. One, it points towards Saturn in Pisces. This is only our second Aquarius New Moon with Saturn in Pisces. (The Aquarius New Moon in 2026 will have Saturn in Aries.) Aquarius and Pisces are an interesting combination. They are the last two signs of the zodiac. Aquarius is the collective of humanity. Pisces is the river of stars that flows out of Aquarius's pitcher and towards its two cosmic fishes.
With Aquarius and Pisces as the focal point of this new moon, we need to think big over the next four weeks — not just about ourselves, but about the larger world around us. Where do we belong? Who are our people? How do we build community? What is our mission and purpose? How do we create more fulfilling lives for ourselves and others? Where is mercy and compassion? How do we create balance, equity, and justice?
Jupiter, the ruler of Pisces, is still square Saturn, which is a way of saying that the Jupiter-Saturn square receives the energy of the new moon. Over the next four weeks we need to recalibrate our lives, rebuild where we need to rebuild, restructuring around the people, things, or organizations that hold greater meaning and purpose.
The second notable thing about this new moon is Pluto in Aquarius. While not closely conjunct, Pluto is 8 degrees off the new moon, which is close enough and adds a strong flavor to our experiences over the next four weeks. As you've heard me say, whether in my weekly videos or in my 3-hour Astrology of 2025 webinar, we're in a new era now that Pluto is in Aquarius. The new moon may act as a lens for this new time and our shift in consciousness around community and society, systems and networks. Read Pluto in Aquarius: Sign by Sign to discover what new personal era Pluto is activating in your life.
Further, Uranus in Taurus stations direct just after the new moon, a ripple of energy that wants to inspire awakenings, new perspectives, breakthroughs, and reinventions. It's another ingredient in our experiences in the next four weeks. (As an aside, it's hard to believe that after six years, we're nearing the end of our time with Uranus in Taurus. Yet here we are.)
Finally, the Aquarius Sun makes a trine to Jupiter in Gemini, needed support in an otherwise heavy lineup. Jupiter inspires us to look beyond ourselves, to think bigger, to want more. It stirs something within us. It engages us on a search or a mission. There are opportunities in the coming four weeks or perhaps a stroke of luck or grace. We may just have to make a leap of faith.
" Aquarius or Aquarius Rising — Major new beginnings, restructure, rebirth, power, individuation. It’s hard to underestimate Pluto’s power in your sign over the coming years. Its arrival in Aquarius marks a major change of seasons, one that may have been foreshadowed by Saturn’s time in Aquarius from 2020-2023. This is the start of a transformative new chapter, one that will unfold differently for every Aquarius. It all depends on your relationship with power and control. For some, Pluto’s revealing where you can no longer resist necessary changes and reformations. For others, it’s a time to step into Pluto’s energy, which can transform your life and how you take the lead and connect with others. Either way, the person you will become over the coming years will be unlike anything you are now."
" Libra or Libra Rising — Identity, creativity, self expression, individualization. Do you know who you are? Do you take yourself and your talents seriously? Saturn’s time in Aquarius from 2020-2023 gave you a lot of material to work on around these questions. Pluto will push you to powerfully take action on this material over the coming years. If you struggle to inhabit your identity or to stand self confidently, then Pluto will show you what’s in the way. For some, it’s a look at the shadow self as well as a demand to reform any self destructive patterns. For others, it’s a time to step into full creative power, to use identity and individuality to have a powerful impact, to completely remake facets of the self."
